Party for the Health of It
Thank you for making Party for the Health of It 2013 a success
Saturday, November 9, 2013, nearly 700 hundred people engaged in global health and contributed to $146,000 total raised for the work of WGHA.
Attendees learned about water, sanitation and hygiene through the eyes of "Afiya" an eleven year-old girl from rural Tanzania. World Vision, Washington State University, PATH and the University of Washington's Department of Global Health set-up a tippy-tap handwashing station, displayed water filters and latrines and provided water-filled buckets for attendees to carry, emulating the distance a woman in Tanzania would have to walk to get water for her family. Attendees could even make origami water filters. The US Fund for UNICEF had jerry cans and Next Gen members on-hand to discuss tangible ways for young professionals to get involved in the fight for clean water, sanitation and hygiene. As the official "Sponsor of Proper Sanitation" the Gates Foundation Visitor Center decked out the bathrooms with information about water, sanitation and hygiene around the world.
As the night concluded, we were struck by this: We came. We gave. We conquered the dance floor.
In Seattle, when we party, we Party for the Health of It. See you next year!
