Washington State University School for Global Animal Health
With a full 70 percent of human infectious disease originating from animals, preventing the spread of animal pathogens to humans is a critical component of global health. Washington State University’s new School for Global Animal Health specifically targets this human–animal interface of global infectious diseases. The school advances science, people, and policy to discover novel approaches for disease intervention and delivery of preventive health care for animals and humans. Three interrelated discovery and implementation pathways—emerging pathogen and disease detection, control of disease transmission from animals to humans, and vaccine development and deployment—merge across disciplinary lines to seek innovative means of disease control.
