Randall Chesnut, Professor of Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine, Integra Endowed Professor of Neurotrauma, and Professor in Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine
Dr. Chesnut received his medical degree from the University of Washington. He completed a five-year residency in Neurological Surgery at the University of California, San Diego, as well as a one-year spine fellowship in the Department of Orthopaedics. Dr. Chesnut joined their department as Assistant Professor in Residence from 1990-1994. From 1994-1996, he served as Chief of Neurosurgical Services at San Francisco General Hospital, in San Francisco, California. In 1996, Dr. Chesnut accepted the position of Associate Professor of Neurosurgery and Director of Neurotrauma and Neurologic Critical Care at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon and served in that capacity until accepting the position of Chief of Cranial and Spine Injury Services at Harborview Medical Center in July, 2004.
Dr. Chesnut’s research interests include: brain injury and trauma care systems in developing countries, prospective investigations of outcomes from acute brain injury in adults and children in developing countries (Cuba and Argentina), early mobilization from acute spinal column injuries, targeted therapy in the management of traumatic brain injury, and evidence based medicine in traumatic brain injury management and spine surgery.
