Chief of Policy, Community Partnerships
Seattle & King County- Public Health
 
 

This position will serve as the Chief of the Policy, Community Partnerships & Communications (PC2) unit in the Public Health Department. The Chief will be a senior manager in the department and will provide leadership, vision and direction for the department and for King County government within the functions of this new unit. The successful candidate will be an innovative, outstanding leader with strong communication and management skills, and must have an understanding of the department’s mission, programs and services, as well as King County government and community issues (including regional and statewide). The incumbent will be responsible for public relations, communications, and strategic policy development and adoption. The incumbent will convene internal and external stakeholders and manage development and promulgation of public health policies and priorities, and will also represent and advance the department’s / county’s health policy interests in local, state and national legislative agendas.

The purpose of the PC2 unit is to focus on key functions that will help achieve the Public Health Operational Master Plan (OMP) vision of increasing the number of healthy years lived by people in King County and eliminating health disparities. The incumbent will provide health policy leadership for this purpose, serving as the key department lead for the promotion of health policy and execution of OMP “Policy Development and Assurance Strategies” for the public health functions of protection, promotion and provision. The department’s OMP emphasizes communication and provision of information to the community and targeted groups, and policy assurance as a key public health strategy for improving the health of the community.

 
Qualifications:  The most competitive candidate will have an advanced degree in public health, public affairs, public policy, communications or related fields and five years of senior management experience or equivalent education and experience demonstrating ability to lead policy development activities, build community partnerships, advance legislative priorities, and supervise a dynamic team of professionals.
 
 
 
Lab Manager (#2010-40)
Seattle Biomedical Research Institute
 
 
The recently established Malaria Clinical Trials Center (MCTC) seeks to accelerate testing of new investigational drugs and vaccines that can relieve the burden of malaria, a disease that kills over one million people each year, most of them young children in Africa. As an integral component, the Clinical and Translational Research Laboratory (CTRL) directly supports the MCTC trial activities by managing specimen processing and sample repository for trial samples in a regulated environment. Additionally, the CTRL harnesses state-of-the-art technologies to conduct assays to monitor and characterize immune responses to vaccination and infection, and seeks to elucidate and qualify immuno-biological correlates of vaccine protection, and establish harmonized criteria to advance future vaccine candidates
We are actively recruiting for a Lab Manager for the Clinical and Translational Research Lab (CTRL). Focus areas of the CTRL include: Cellular immunology, humerol immunology, biomarker discovery, molecular biology and clinical trial specimen management.
 
Qualifications: 
 
A strong interest in global health, clinical research, and the mission of Seattle BioMed. A Bachelor’s degree, plus seven years experience or MS or PhD in the scientific field. Experience in human clinical trials and GCP, GLP regulated environments. Experience in project, budget, and resource management. Computer and software proficiency in Microsoft applications. Experience developing, standardizing and validating biological assay methodologies. Proven track record of training, management and interpersonal competencies.
