Ken Stuart, president and founder of Seattle BioMed, is honored by the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation
Ken Stuart, Seattle BioMed's president and founder, has been selected as one of five recipients of special grants awarded by the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation to mark the Foundation's 20th anniversary. In Ken's honor, Seattle BioMed will receive $20,000 in unrestricted funds. The grants recognize "change agents" who created organizations that continue to deliver high impact programs for local communities to founders of notable nonprofit organizations in the Pacific Northwest. Seattle BioMed was the only scientific organization selected.
And, while we are so pleased that Ken has been honored by the Allen Foundation in this way, the bigger news that came as part of this announcement is that Paul Allen is committing to leave the majority of his wealth to continue to fund his foundation and to also fund scientific research. Ken feels that this announcement shows Allen's commitment to science in Seattle: "Paul has a deep, intellectual curiosity. I wouldn't be surprised if he's thinking about what is really going to make the most constructive, long-term impact."
