Author, Comedian & Cancer Survivor

Glenn Rockowitz is an author, comedian, former Saturday Night Live writer and four-time cancer survivor. He is the founder of Best Medicine, a NYC-based nonprofit organization that provides comedy performances to homebound cancer and AIDS patients, as well as the founder of Change It Back, an Adolescent & Young Adult cancer coalition designed to improve treatment standards for AYA oncology patients.

His breakout memoir Rodeo in Joliet became a national bestseller shortly after its release and was subsequently optioned to become a major motion picture. His writing is featured frequently on the Huffington Post and he has recently appeared on the Moth, NPR, NBC and numerous syndicated radio programs.

Eating for Comfort: How to soothe with food as an act of self-care

Do you find yourself turning to food during difficult times or when feeling negative emotions? In this talk and live cooking demo, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor Anita Bermann will discuss why it is normal and healthy to intentionally choose to soothe with food. She will discuss the difference between “eating emotionally” and “trying to eat away our emotions,” and will offer tips for finding more pleasure and satisfaction in food. She will also demonstrate original winter comfort food recipes, including Cheesy Potato-Garlic Soup, Golden Roasted Cabbage, and Chocolate Chai Latte.
