Re-imagining Technical Assistance for MNCH & Strengthening National Health Systems

July 21, 2020 @ 8:00 am - 9:00 am

Global Health Council in partnership with the Global Child Health Task Force, John Snow Inc., invites you to discuss principles of re-imagined technical assistance (TA) for maternal, newborn, and child health services. The Democratic Republic of Congo’s Ministry of Health and Nigerian Federal Ministry of Health, both partnered with the Global Child Health Task Force at John Snow Inc. and Sonder Collective to re-imagine how TA was planned and coordinated in order to strengthen the health system and delivery of maternal, newborn, and child health services. Using a human-centered design (HCD) approach, this BMGF-funded initiative’s aim was to re-imagine TA so that it could have a greater potential to save lives in a more sustainable way.

Over the last 18 months, the team interviewed TA actors (national Ministry of Health officials, donors, implementing partners, health care managers, and service providers) and convened a series of workshops to discuss the experience of TA, its pain points, and the desired shifts to make TA more responsive to country needs. The actors co-created critical shifts and designed principles for effective TA to guide its planning and delivery moving forward.

Speakers will discuss the reasons behind why re-imagining TA using HCD approaches is critical, the proposed critical shifts and principles of effective TA lessons learned along with the impact COVID-19 on the future of global health and TA. There will be time set aside for Q&A from the audience with discussion.
