On November 2nd, host Lee Huntsman and Cambia Grove are pleased to welcome Dr. Nwando Anyaoku, Chief Health Equity Officer at Swedish Health Services. Lee Huntsman and Dr. Anyaoku will discuss her career experience spanning pediatric care, population health, health equity and community partnerships. As the inaugural Chief Health Equity Officer for Swedish, Dr. Anyaoku is leading the organization’s programs to measure equity in care delivery and outcomes, improving access for patients from all backgrounds and promoting culturally competent care. Attendees will leave inspired and empowered with actionable steps they can leverage to achieve forward progress in dismantling barriers and increasing equitable access to care.

About the speakers:

Nwando Anyaoku, MD, MPH, MBA is vice president and the inaugural chief health equity officer for Swedish Health Services. Dr. Anyaoku has been an instrumental member of the Swedish leadership team since 2016, having served in a number of executive roles including: executive medical director of Pediatrics, executive medical director of Medicaid strategy for Population Health and physician lead for health equity and community partnerships. Prior to arriving at Swedish, Dr. Anyaoku was system medical director of Pediatric Medicine at CHI Health in Omaha, Neb., and division chief of General Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital of New Jersey at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.

Dr. Anyaoku is active in her community and serves on the boards of Neighborcare HealthHealthierHereSt. Joseph’s Community Partnership Fund and the Providence National Foundation.

She earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Nigeria in Nsukka, a Master of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University, and a Master of Business Administration at the University of Washington. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics and clinical associate professor at the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine, Washington State University.

Lee Huntsman served as Associate Dean for scientific affairs in the UW School of Medicine from 1993 to 1996 and became Acting Provost of the University of Washington in 1996 and Provost in 1997. In November 2002, Huntsman became Interim President and then President of the University of Washington. In July 2005, Lee Huntsman was selected by Washington Governor Christine Gregoire as the first Executive Director of the Life Sciences Discovery Fund Authority, a public-private partnership intended to give life sciences research in the state a major boost. Lee served as the Executive Director until 2012.

After distinguished service in academic leadership spanning more than two decades, Lee Huntsman was named President Emeritus by the University of Washington Board of Regents in July 2004. He continues to provide leadership in a variety of scientific and policy initiatives underway at the University and in the state of Washington and as a member of various for profit and nonprofit boards.
