Rotarian Malaria Partners

Executive Director

Officially established in 2013, Rotarian Malaria Partners (RMP) is a non-profit organization comprised of Rotarians dedicated to the ultimate worldwide eradication of Malaria. RMP’s core mission is to expand Rotary International’s (RI’s) malaria fighting efforts through innovative programs and projects in malaria-endemic regions in conjunction with local Rotary Clubs, and by educating and advocating malaria eradication among RI’s leadership.

The Executive Director is a position made possible by a capacity building grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) that recognizes the long-term importance of RMP’s strategic initiatives and collaboration with RI. We prefer to structure this position as an independent contractor.

Authority and Reporting
The Executive Director reports to the Board Chair and Executive Committee, working closely with numerous Board committees.  Board members are elected for three-year terms by the membership. The Executive Director will passionately lead RMP toward its mission, work closely with a highly engaged Board, deepen existing organizational partnerships, and enhance resource development.

Responsibilities

Fundraising and Communications

  • Play a leading role in fundraising and resource development including cultivation, solicitation and grant writing for private foundations, public funders and individual donors.
  • Create an advocacy marketing plan encompassing Rotary-related events, webinars, social media and Rotary Club presentations in light of potentially longer than expected travel limitations.
  • Donor Relationship Management. Transition the organization to a recordkeeping system for all past and future financial donors.
  • Effectively communicate internally and externally RMP’s vision and exemplify its core values.
  • Serve as one of RMP’s lead spokespersons on malaria eradication.

Partnerships, Relationships and Collaboration

  • Coordinate and oversee major Rotary grant initiatives.
  • Plan, execute, and report on activities related to RMP’s ongoing relationship with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
  • Work with the Treasurer to develop and monitor the annual budgeting process.
  • Develop and implement a plan for expanded public fundraising.
  • Work with Board Chair to set monthly Board meeting agendas.
  • Work with RMP’s Director of Strategic Engagement to strengthen relationships with the leadership of RI, the Rotary Foundation, district and zonal Rotary leadership as well as government entities and NGOs committed to malaria reduction or eradication: BMGF, PATH, Malaria No More, PMI, UNICEF, World Vision, and others.
  • Coordinate and support Board Committees and Task Forces, including Finance, Communications, Small Grants, Programs of Scale, and more.

Teamwork

  • Work effectively and intentionally with the Board to fulfill RMP’s mission while growing and sustaining the organization.
  • In conjunction with the Board, continually enhance and refine RMP’s strategic plans.
  • Manage planning, implementation and reporting of required activities called for in the BMGF grant.
  • Coordinate renewal application for the BMGF capacity building grant in Q3 2020.

Working Relationships

The Executive Director is expected to interact with the following on a regular basis, demonstrating teamwork and professionalism:

  • RMP Board members, RMP Ambassadors and Officers.
  • Director of Strategic Engagement.
  • All contract personnel, including administrative and marketing functions.
  • Funders and individual donors.
  • RI and Rotary Foundation leadership.
  • Rotary district and zonal
  • Other Rotary-affiliated malaria organizations.
  • Other NGOs battling malaria.
  • RMP’s current and future sister organizations, including RMP Uganda and RMP Zambia.

Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate

  • Five-year track record of executive experience and leadership, including nonprofit organizational, financial, and operational management expertise applicable to RMP’s asset size and strategic mission.
  • Project management experience, successfully coordinating cross-functional participants to achieve common objectives.
  • Successful track record of building partnerships and collaborative projects with other funders and organizations that leverage each group’s respective strengths.
  • Successful track record in soliciting major gifts and grants.
  • Ability to travel, including occasional international travel, with the flexibility and sensitivity to work effectively in a wide variety of geographic, political, and cultural settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to build lasting relationships among diverse constituents, across various geographic regions, cultures, demographics and socio-economic status, ranging from major financial donors to local Rotarians in developing countries.
  • Excellent communications skills with particular emphasis upon effective public speaking.
  • Undergraduate degree required. Advanced degree or certification preferred such as MPH, MPA, MBA, CAP, CFRE, JD, etc.
  • Proven experience working with and reporting to a board of directors or trustees.
  • Experience serving as a passionate advocate and compelling external face of an organization to the community, government, donors and stakeholders.
  • Experience in Global Health policy and projects with knowledge of malaria preferred.
  • Preference – grant writing experience.
  • Preference – a Rotarian with knowledge of RI’s structure and operations.

Compensation

Compensation will be commensurate with experience competitive with other not-for-profits of similar size, scope and focus in the Pacific Northwest.
