The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation and the Department of Health Metric Sciences within the School of Medicine at the University of Washington are recruiting to fill one faculty position at full or part-time, at the Professor without tenure (WOT) level. Faculty appointed WOT do not hold tenure because all or part of their annual University-administered salary is derived from sources other than regularly appropriated state funds. Except for this distinction, WOT faculty members have the same rights, responsibilities, and obligations as tenure-track and tenured faculty members at those ranks. Professors in the Department of Health Metrics Sciences have an annual service period of 12 months (July 1 – June 30), and the position is a multi-year appointment.
The incumbent would be responsible for guiding and executing the intellectual content required to derive burden of disease estimates risk factors related to the environment. This task will include modeling of causes of death, nonfatal health outcomes, and environmental risk factor exposures using data from a multitude of sources and applying complex algorithms in novel statistical applications developed at IHME. The person in this position will both generate the results and critique them in light of trends in the available data and epidemiological and clinical assumptions, and, where appropriate, determine whether adjustments to models or model assumptions should be made, and finalize results in consultation with other faculty. The person in this position will present the results both internally and externally and contribute to appropriate peer reviewed journal articles and policy reports pertaining to them, as well as to the expansion of environmental risk factor research for the Institute, including the expansion of the network of collaborators.
Faculty members at IHME also take on an important leadership role in mentoring predoctoral and postdoctoral fellows working in the field of health metrics. The successful applicant will have an MD or PhD in environmental health, spatial statistics, ecology, epidemiology, population health, related field or foreign equivalent and a proven record of quantitative research in a health-related field including statistical modeling using multiple and large data sets.
