Project Manager – Communication & Engagement

The TrialNet Hub located at the Benaroya Research Institute in Seattle, WA is seeking an energetic thought leader and team player for the role of Project Manager – Communication and Engagement. The Project Manager will serve on the Hub team, working in partnership with the Hub Director and the Hub Program Manager to further the primary goals of the TrialNet Hub:

  • Assuring that neither recruitment nor operations are limiting factors in TrialNet meeting its’ clinical objectives
  • Advancing systems and a culture that is sustainable, scalable, adaptable, and forward thinking.

The Project Manager will be responsible for the overall communication and engagement efforts supporting the Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet research portfolio. This position is responsible for developing and executing internal and external engagement and communication strategies, including branding and messaging designed to increase participant engagement, resources to support outreach and recruitment efforts for TrialNet studies, as well as internal member communications. The Project Manager will work closely with TrialNet leadership, study chairs, coordinators, and the TrialNet Coordinating Center to collaboratively implement strategic communication and engagement initiatives.

  • Develop and execute annual communication and engagement strategies for external audiences including current and prospective participants, as well as the scientific community
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills with experience writing health communications, media materials, and presentations
  • Create and manage materials and products based on principles and methods of health education and promotion, this includes study collateral, website content, and engagement campaigns
  • Manage media inquiries and facilitate new avenues to promote TrialNet in multi-media formats
  • Reinvigorating and monitor the TrialNet web page and social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
  • Identify and evaluate communication and engagement key performance indicators
  • Responsible for writing internal and external communication and media content, including press releases, social media content, participant newsletters and communications, as well as internal memos and announcements
  • Provide communication plans for each TrialNet study from launch through closure
  • Prepare presentations and materials for various meetings and conferences including the bi-annual Steering Committee Meeting
  • Be an active team member, providing input and decision-making to influence strategic direction for the Hub
  • Ensure that the TrialNet brand remains recognizable to key stakeholders and external populations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including the TrialNet Data Coordinating Center and Clinical Center staff


  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of experience in fields such as health education, public health, or marketing
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Outstanding interpersonal, customer service, excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excels at translating scientific concepts and publications to lay audiences
  • Demonstrated excellent human relations, facilitation and influencing skills to deal effectively with a broad range of people
  • Ability to manage relationships effectively and build collaborative bridges
  • Experience managing multiple projects from inception to completion with strong project management and organization skills
  • Ability to think critically and synthesize complex issues to move project forward
  • Strong copywriting, editing and proofreading skills with focused attention to detail
  • Strong understanding of engagement campaign strategy development and execution, content marketing and performance measurements
  • Experience with brand development and management
  • Ability to lead, organize, and prioritize multiple projects and requests simultaneously
  • Passion for customers and drive to understand prospective participants needs, translating that into relevant and useful engagement content
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required; Adobe Creative suite or design software is preferred

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related field with at least 1 years of post-master’s relevant experience
  • Working experience in an academic or scientific research environment
