IHME has an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Content Writer and Producer.
The Senior Content Writer and Producer will achieve policy impact by managing strategy for and production of audience-centric content. This role will be a senior content writer and producer in the policy sphere. They will oversee a large portfolio of content with the ultimate goal of seeding uptake of findings by decision makers and policy influencers. They will lead the development and execution of a content strategy that raises awareness among target audiences and increases their engagement with IHME’s work. They will also develop and manage relationships with influential thought leaders to increase policy impact through content.
The Senior Content Writer and Producer will be a skilled writer, editor, and communicator, and able to quickly connect IHME’s findings to the needs of stakeholders in the policy sphere and beyond. They will be adept at managing complex projects and communication for a number of projects simultaneously.
This position will independently oversee the work of and/or supervise writer(s) on the Network Engagement team. Overall, the Senior Content Writer and Producer will be an essential member of a collaborative team in a challenging and exciting work environment.
· Produce, write, and edit content such as op-eds, news articles, reports, briefs, web content, videos, podcasts, infographics, blog posts, and presentations
· Communicate key aspects of complex research projects in concise, compelling, and comprehensible ways for decision makers, policy influencers, and other key stakeholders, strongly informed by a command of IHME’s priorities and the needs of stakeholders.
· Innovate interdisciplinary ways to communicate research concepts, methods, and results to decision makers and policy influencers in order to seed uptake of IHME findings.
· Oversee the development of custom content, contribute to training activities, and be responsive to partner needs in order to empower IHME’s networks to better understand, communicate, and utilize evidence from research projects.
Leadership and Project Management
· Oversee the work of a dynamic team to deliver high-quality collaborations, drive forward key deliverables, achieve greater uptake of results, and identify new opportunities for engagement. This position may supervise writers.
· Assess and understand the interests, motivations, knowledge, and information needs of target audiences as well as the landscape, stakeholders, politics, and priorities in the global and public health fields.
· Monitor timelines and progress toward deliverables.
· Develop and implement an audience-focused content strategy to advance the Institute’s key objectives.
· Independently manage production of content.
· Communicate diplomatically and effectively with partners and stakeholders to deliver high-quality materials.
· Ensure adherence to style guidelines.
· Develop content metrics and key performance indicators in collaboration with the Marketing & Communications Team, and monitor progress.
· Contribute to the strategic planning, portfolio management, and priority setting of the Network Engagement Team.
· Contribute to staff development and training activities.
· Working alongside institutional leaders, develop and manage a portfolio of high-profile partnerships with influential thought leaders to increase policy impact.
· Cultivate a strong understanding of the key concepts, methods, inputs, results, and implications of IHME’s research portfolio, including emergent projects and key issues in population health.
· Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Public Health, Communications, or relevant field plus five to seven years of experience.
· Experience writing and distilling complex subject matter for non-academic, non-technical audiences.
· Superior written, oral, and listening skills with the ability to adjust message and tone for a variety of audiences, particularly non-academic audiences.
· Past success at project management, including a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, solve problems, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
· Strong editing skills.
· A strong awareness and understanding of power dynamics in population health, and a firm commitment to engaging partners equitably and with cultural humility.
· Ability to take complex scientific research and transform it into compelling stories for a variety of audiences.
· An ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve objectives and to respond constructively to setbacks.
· Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
· Strong interpersonal skills: observant, perceptive, and emotionally intelligent.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
· Previous experience in communications, policy, advocacy, or global health.
· Demonstrated success creating content about science for non-academic audiences.
· Skilled at guiding the creation of easy-to-understand visuals.
· Demonstrated ability to manage editorial processes for digital and print content.
· Experience in content strategy.
· Experience producing videos and podcasts.
· Supervisory experience with an ability to lead people, develop employees, and resolve conflicts.
Conditions of Employment:
· Evening and weekend work sometimes required.
· International and domestic travel will be required up to 25% of the time
