Vice President, Development

Role Summary:  

The Vice President, Development will report to the CEO and will lead all facets of our development, fundraising, and marketing/branding efforts in support of our organizational mission of bringing humanitarian donations to cancer patients in low- and middle-income countries.  This position will be responsible for providing overall leadership and direction, developing strategic plans, and implementing our strategy in support of plans, through managing a team of  5 team members. The VP of Development will serve as the primary decision-maker in a variety of areas related to the overall growth of The Max Foundation’s funding sources.

Responsibilities:

  • Works on behalf of the CEO and provides executive leadership and direction for all development and communications functions
  • Develops and executes strategic fundraising priorities to expand, broaden and diversify the donor base, in alignment with organizational goals
  • Acts as a key decision-maker for the organization, including decisions with significant risk/opportunity for the foundation, by providing expert counsel
  • Collaborates with team-members across the organization to intricately understand organizational operations and shares expertise to shape broad design matters and future process improvements
  • Supports the CEO in leading the organization and in making strategic changes with organization-wide impact
  • In collaboration with the CEO and executive team, responsible for the process of designing and implementing a diversified fund development strategy, budget and complementary communications plan for the organization
  • Sets the people strategy for the global fundraising and communications, manages team-members, and oversees work on large consultant projects
  • Oversees the development of content and leverages multiple communication mediums to compliment relationship and development efforts
  • Builds and maintains visibility with an external network and shows ability to influence external partners at senior and executive levels
  • Identify and build relationships with prospective donors including individuals, corporations, foundations and create avenues for donor engagement
  • Represents The Max Foundation in the absence of the CEO and serves as an external spokesperson

Success profile in these specific areas:

  • Proven experience building and managing a development team, including vision, strategy, and implementation
  • Corporate fundraising; from stakeholder engagement and framework to fundraising proposals
  • Strategy for community engagement; leading events, donor stewardship, advisor relations and participation on various boards
  • Strong network of external constituents that they are willing and able to engage on behalf of the organization
  • Business and partner development; moving from project support to broader partnerships
  • Regional fundraising and partnership engagement; collaboration with local leadership
  • Drive operations through strategic initiatives globally
  • Architect branding for increased visibility
  • Lead creative activities through print and media assets
  • Manage external relationships; managing assets, promotion and responses (media, publications and external stakeholders)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s or relevant certification required
  • 10+ years of professional experience in the fundraising field, preferably in the global health industry
  • Excellent analytical skills and proven ability to make critical decisions
  • Advanced project and people management skills and ability to navigate in a fast-paced environment with a solid track-record of following through on commitments
  • Experience working in a global and multicultural capacity across time zones and among diverse team
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills; written and verbal fluency in French, Spanish, or another language, a plus
  • Willing and able to travel domestically or internationally, on occasion

Compensation:
