The Department of Global Health has an outstanding opportunity for a Data Manager to join their team.
This position will sit in the Global Center for the Integrated Health of Women, Adolescents, and Children (Global WACh) that is based in the University of Washington Departments of Global Health, Obstetrics/Gynecology, and Pediatrics. Our mission is to make scientific discoveries, cultivate leaders, and bridge disciplines to advance the tightly connected health and well-being of women, adolescents and children. Global WACh brings together expertise in maternal health from the Department of Obstetrics/Gynecology, neonatal and child health expertise from the Department of Pediatrics, and vast experience working in infectious disease, health metrics and evaluation, education, clinical research, and service delivery within the Department of Global Health. These disciplines combine under a methodology that views women, children, and adolescents as three populations interconnected along a shared life course.
POSITION PURPOSE AND COMPLEXITIES
This position will support the DeWorm3 project, a multi-country trial to determine the feasibility of interrupting the transmission of soil-transmitted helminthiasis (STH), as well as other projects at Global WACh. Funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the DeWorm3 project is supported by several Support Units housed in the Department of Global Health at the University of Washington.
We are seeking a highly experienced and proactive Data Manager to help develop data management code and work with DeWorm3 trial site data managers and the central data team to resolve queries. DeWorm3 data is collected electronically in SurveyCTO, enabling the data teams to monitor data quality and consistency in real time. The Data Quality Manager will ensure that there is harmonized collection, cleaning, sharing and storage of data across multiple trial sites. The successful applicant will be working within the DeWorm3 Team at UW and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. The applicant should have an excellent understanding of data management, preferably from similar work in resource-limited settings, as well as conducting statistical analyses.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Data quality monitoring and assurance (50%)
Independently monitor incoming study data; Maintain a proactive and forward-thinking approach to data management and data quality
Develop, run, and maintain quality assurance code and generate queries in a timely and consistent manner to meet project timelines
Review query responses and error resolution forms submitted by site Data Managers; write and run cleaning code when queries are resolved; maintain audit trail for data cleaning
Provide timely and accurate responses to site feedback to queries
Manage the overall data quality and data cleaning process to ensure high quality data are ready for subsequent activities, reporting and data cuts for analyses
Initiate and lead larger data quality and cleaning activities within and across study activities and sites
Communicate effectively with the DeWorm3 team and site Data Managers to ensure relevant queries are addressed in order to ensure consistent data cleaning in line with best practice
Track and document recurring issues in data collection or cleaning; Advise on updates to data collection tools, Standard Operating Procedures and training materials to prevent recurrence of documented issues
Proactively work with supervisory staff and other data team members to identify key routine quality assurance and control activities; respond to requests from site data mangers and central data management team members
Present progress updates in weekly data team meetings and provide written summaries as needed
Quantitative and Statistical Analysis (30%)
Work closely with DeWorm3 and other study investigators to develop quantitative and statistical analysis plans for conference abstracts, manuscripts, and secondary study analyses
Develop analysis shell tables and reproducible analysis in R and/or Stata
Run quantitative and statistical analyses including descriptive statistics, univariate and multivariate regression analysis, longitudinal data analysis and other methods as needed
Contribute to the writing of methods and limitations sections of manuscripts and conference abstracts
Other activities (20%)
Work closely with DeWorm3 investigators and operations team to understand project goals
Contribute to generation of study reports and presentations as needed
Work with the DeWorm3 team and site Data teams to ensure collection of high quality and accurate data
Participate in weekly DeWorm3 Logistics Meeting and present data quality updates
Support other projects across the Global WACh group portfolio as needed
Master’s degree (MS or MPH) in Epidemiology, Biostatistics or related field
2 or more years of experience in data management, analysis and/or data quality assurance
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Proficiency in Stata programming
Proficiency in R programming
Experience designing and conducting quantitative statistical analysis
Familiarity with Survey CTO or other ODK-based data collection systems.
Database management experience involving data quality assurance.
One or more years of experience with data quality assurance and quality control activities.
One or more years of experience with clinical trials and/or longitudinal biomedical data.
One or more years of experience with laboratory biomedical data.
Excellent analytical thinking skills and written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to complete complex data management tasks independently and to work in a group setting to meet project goals.
Experience handling high volume of diverse tasks in a timely manner with consistent accuracy and attention to detail.
Computing experience on Windows operating systems.
Proficiency in French.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Must be able to participate in meetings outside usual work hours to accommodate schedules of partners primarily located in Europe, Asia, and in Africa.
May require international travel
