We are excited to share news about leadership changes at WGHA.
After months of a nationwide search, the governance board has selected Maurizio Vecchione as our new president and CEO. Maurizio comes to WGHA after almost eight years as executive vice president leading Global Good, a collaboration between Bill Gates and Intellectual Ventures to invent and develop technologies that address some of humanity’s most daunting challenges, with a focus on global health and global development. We are thrilled that he is joining our team this month.
Maurizio believes strongly in our mission, understands our community and its great potential, and has an impressive track record of growing highly effective organizations. He is dedicated to championing our thriving existing initiatives, like STEM Global and Women in Global Health Seattle, and elevating WGHA’s role with more members, new partners, and greater collective impact. He is focused on supporting and connecting members, including through his networks in government, research, and academia. We know that Maurizio will continue building on the outstanding leadership of Lisa Cohen and Dena Morris to take WGHA to new heights. You can learn more about Maurizio here.
We are also pleased that K. R. Prabha, who goes by “Prabha,” is our new board chair. Like Maurizio, she is a strong believer in the power of partnerships to advance health and increase impact. She has served on the board for two years as treasurer. During that time, Prabha helped develop an executive scorecard framework and has been an integral part of all board discussions and decisions.
Prabha is both the vice president of Transformation and Integration Excellence and interim vice president of Enterprise Transformation at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit. In these dual roles, she enables the organization to realize its strategic vision. Prabha is a global citizen—having lived in India, Canada, and the US—with more than 20 years of experience as a management consultant focused on healthcare delivery, models, and financing. She succeeds Gabrielle Fitzgerald, CEO of Panorama Global, as board chair. Read more about Prabha here.
Maurizio and Prabha will position WGHA for growth—exploring new members, partners, and offerings—to continue advancing our mission. Together, they will work alongside the board to develop a bold vision that sets WGHA up for increased impact in the world. They are fiercely committed to making our sector more diverse, equitable, and inclusive—and ensuring that WGHA reflects this commitment.
We are thrilled to have Maurizio and Prabha leading WGHA. They are both innovators who embrace challenge and believe strongly in the power of alliances. They are the right team to bring together our global health community to have even greater impact in the world.
WGHA’s mission and members are and will remain at the core of everything we do. Listening to and meeting with members will be the top priority for Maurizio and Prabha in the coming weeks and months.
We look forward to [virtually] introducing you!
