Global to Local

What We Do

WGHA convened the parties that formed Global to Local, an initiative to improve health in low-income U.S. communities using proven global health strategies. The partnership was founded in 2010 by WGHA, Swedish Health Services, Public Health – Seattle & King County, HealthPoint, and the cities of SeaTac and Tukwila. Global to Local is now a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with significant support from Providence Health & Services, Swedish Health Services, Washington State University, and others. It is pilot-testing approaches in the cities of SeaTac and Tukwila, where homelessness, poverty, and language and cultural barriers contribute to poor health outcomes similar to those in some developing countries.

Global to Local’s leaders are aiming to develop a community-based healthcare program that can be replicated throughout Washington and across the country. Elements include community health screenings, remote diabetes management, community health worker training, and support for low-income residents to start food businesses that will improve community access to quality food.

To date, Global to Local has provided support to more than 10,000 people, partnered with more than 40 community organizations, and raised more than $3 million from public and private donors.
